Hey everyone, I just got my new headers put on. I have a set of 4-2-1 2 piece, straight pipe (hi flow) cat converter, 2.5 Inch piping, then a Tenzo R muffler. When I step on the gas it sounds good, when I let off it makes a popping noise? Is this too much air coming out or what? How can I stop this from popping. Is it normal? Please help. Would it stop if I put the stock cat back on? Thanks. Mike

you might be running rich or lean, not sure which way it would be. or it just could be you dont have any back pressure and that is what it does. but what the hell do i know?

sounds like little-to-no backpressure, and/or poorly piped/welded/flanged system. my DX did that with my custom 2.25 piping...it sounded like crap. any GOOD system won't have that popping sound associated with a poorly put together system. if you're engie is stock, 2.5" might be slightly too large anyway...

Its not 2.5, dont know why I put that. It is 2.0 inch. Just slightly over stock. Will I get some back pressure by putting stock Catalytic Converter back on? How can I get more back pressure? I tryed messing with the timing, no luck.... Also this is this buzz through 3-4 thousand rpm's. Sounds like total shit. Kinda like RICE!!! I hate that shit. Anyway, anyone know of any pointers?

I would put the stock cat back on and go to the place you got the exhaust and have them put a baffle on after the cat($15 at wal-mart for a baffle). On the SOHC's if there is not a proper amount of back pressure you will most likly toast your piston rings. With backfire it sounds like your running rich anyway. that will burn your rings quicker.
If you hate that RICE crap why did you buy tenzo R exhaust(RICE BRAND)?

hey darolh, that true what he said. say you had a V6, if you put no back pressure on one side and left the other side with stock back pressure, then after 5 years compression test it and the side with the stock will be higher than the side that has no back pressure
